Smartphones are known to have pretentious names that are usually promising more than the device actually delivers, but there are some exceptions. Samsung Epic 4G is now available in the US, courtesy of Sprint and the name couldn't have been more appropriate, for what is probably the best smartphone in the world. To cut to the chase Samsung Epic 4G is simply the Galaxy S 2 with a few tweaks implemented by the carrier, tweaks that don't ruin it, but give this model a new flavor.

samsung-epic-4gPowered by the blazing fast 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, Samsung Epic 4G is just as reliable as the original and the 8 megapixel camera has remained virtually untouched. It captures the same amazing videos and photos, and the only change resides in the way the lens and LED flash being shaped into a vertical oval. The display is the same topnotch Super AMOLED that fascinates the world ever since it was introduced, but Samsung Epic 4G features a bigger one of 4.5 inches.

A slight improvement is the fact that Sprint's version will ship with Android 2.3.4 installed, the most recent version of Gingerbread, which includes the gTalk video chat. A step forward has been made with the battery, Samsung Epic 4G being fitted with a slightly more powerful one which was necessary since this smartphone also has 4G capabilities. In terms of software, Sprint didn't change too much, and the few additions are rather inspired with a couple of multimedia-based apps.

Overall, Samsung Epic 4G is an amazing smartphone and we didn't expect anything else from a device that is almost a clone of Galaxy S 2. The American public can rejoice, knowing that one of the best Android running smartphones is now available nationwide, and they can thank Sprint for it.
